ABATE of Louisiana's President comments on the Legislative Update
Folks, March 31st is the first day of the regular Louisiana legislative session. Many bills have been proposed
to be passed into law that will affect us directly as motorcyclists. Both Representative Mert Smiley, our man in the
legislature, along with Ken Jones, our motorcyclist liaison to Governor Jindal have said that we, as motorcyclists,
need to voice our legislative preferences en-mass so that our collective voices constitute a ROAR in Baton Rouge.
Frankly, some bills proposed for the March 31st session are ridiculous. Everyone needs to view these bills and
voice your opinions. Where do you find these proposed bills? It's easy. Just click on the "legislation" button on
the left, then click on "legislative update".
Many motorcyclists over the last few weeks have asked: "Where do I find my state representative and state
senator, and their contact info?" Well, that's easy also. Just click on the "legislation" button on the left, then
click on "state". Then simply fill in your address, and your state representative and state senator along with
contact info will appear.
There are 135,000 registered motorcyclists in Louisiana. That represents a huge block vote. We ALL need
to voice our opinion. One voice is but a whisper, but thousands of voices constitute a ROAR.
However, folks, when you voice your opinion, be polite, be professional. If you project arrogance and sarcasm,
your opinion will probably be disregarded.
