A.B.A.T.E. MISSION STATEMENT

We are a non-profit organization dedicated to motorcycle safety, awareness, and realistic motorcycle legislation. Through the efforts of A.B.A.T.E. of Louisiana, concerned motorcyclists, and supporters, Louisiana no longer had a mandatory helmet law for those eighteen years of age or older after the 1999 legislative session. During the 2004 session that was all changed. The House and Senate voted to re-instate the helmet law. We continue to live up to this mission statement and fight to repeal this law.

A.B.A.T.E. is not a club. Membership is open to all motorcyclists from all walks of
life, riding all types of motorcycles. We are affiliated with national rights groups such as the American Motorcycle Association AMA, National Coalition of
Motorcyclist NCOM, and the Motorcycle Riders Foundation MRF.

Legislation and Safety
Our main focus is to keep motorcycle legislation in its proper perspective, protecting motorcyclists' rights on the road, and to achieve the safest conditions
for motorcycling in Louisiana.

A.B.A.T.E. works to keep our legislators informed of our members collective
position on motorcycle-related legislation through active participation in the legislative process.

A.B.A.T.E. strongly encourages all motorcyclist to take a rider education course,

as it is our firm belief that an educated and well trained rider is a safe rider.

Motorcycle Awareness
Educating the non-riding public about motorcycles is also an important part of making the roads safe for all. Thus A.B.A.T.E. of Louisiana works to make the general public more aware of motorcycles, as well as the responsibility of sharing the road with motorcycles.

We currently Chair the Louisiana Motorcyclist Safety And Awareness Committee hosted by the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission in Baton Rouge and present
a Motorcyclist Awareness Program (M.A.P.) in High School Drivers Education
classes in Jefferson Parish that we hope to spread throughout the State.

Motorcycle Rights
In 2006 we received 2 national awards for our involvement in passage of Louisiana's new Right Of Way Bill to increase penalties for those that carelessly violate our right of way.

Whether it be local, state or federal laws, rules and regulations that affect motorcyclists, A.B.A.T.E. of Louisiana strives to have the facts and is fighting for your rights.

Also A.B.A.T.E. of Louisiana monitors proposed legislation at all levels of government that could adversely affect motorcyclists. A.B.A.T.E. of Louisiana is accountable for every dollar that is raised to fight for the rights all motorcyclist.

Truth and accountability are what makes A.B.A.T.E. of Louisiana the oldest and most successful motorcycle rights organization in our state.
